Here are the horror movies and shows that should be on your radar this weekend (8/4):
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (2023). Streaming on Netflix. A relatable zombie comedy about a man who hates his job so much he’s actually excited when the zombie apocalypse starts. In fact, he breaks out his “100 things you must do to not become a zombie” bucket list and starts living his life to the fullest. Zom 100 is based on the manga, which is also streaming on Netflix.
The Bigfoot Trap (2022). Streaming on Paramount+. A horror thriller about a journalist who is sent to interview a man who claims he’s going to catch bigfoot. Instead, the journalist is locked inside the trap himself. This looks like a fun mix of a bigfoot B movie and pastoral horror.
Insidious: The Red Door (2023). Available on video on demand (VOD). The latest Insidious film comes home. After two back-to-back prequels, The Red Door finally picks up on the Lambert family storyline after Insidious Chapter 2 (2013). Dalton (Ty Simpkins) goes to college but the demons from his past follow him. He and his father Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson, who also directs) must go into The Further for one final confrontation.
Skinamarink (2022). Streaming on Hulu. Last year’s most viral (and bizarre) horror movie is now streaming on Hulu. The experimental film follows two children who wake up in their home to discover that they are alone. As an unseen presence makes things increasingly unsettling and what’s on the screen evokes childhood memories of fear in viewers.
The Northman (2022). Streaming on Peacock. Robert Eggers’ bloody action thriller has just been added to Peacock. Based on stories from Norse mythology, Alexander Skarsgård portrays Amleth, a Viking prince who wants to avenge the murder of his father. Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Claes Bang, Ethan Hawke, Björk and Willem Dafoe also appear.
