All 19 Horror/Thriller Movies Newly Streaming on Hulu in September 2025

Hulu’s September selection is a good mix of horror and thriller, with a bit of action and comedy.

Nicolas Cage stars in The Surfer (2024), which is coming to Hulu this month!

Table of Contents

Though Hulu’s selection of newly streaming horror isn’t as extensive as Peacock’s in September, there’s still a lot of fun to be had. Two standout movies released earlier this year (The Surfer and Bloody Axe Wound) join Hulu towards the end of the month, and the rest of September has a good mix of older and newer favorites like Jennifer’s Body and Evil Dead Rise. Check out every horror movie and dark thriller new on Hulu below!

September 1

Evil Dead Rise (2023)

Alyssa Sutherland became a horror sensation with her starring role in Evil Dead Rise.

The latest Evil Dead movie transposes the “cabin in the woods” theme of previous films into an apartment complex. A demonic force is unleashed by playing old records connected to a familiar book, and a single mother becomes a Deadite. Now her children and her sister try to survive the night and escape with their souls.

The Shallows (2016)

The Shallows was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the director of House of Wax (2005), Orphan (2009), and The Woman in the Yard (2025).

Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on an isolated beach in Mexico when she is attacked by a great white shark. With everyone else gone, Nancy becomes trapped on a rock too far from the shore to safely paddle or swim to with the shark still on the hunt. It’s now a matter of survival and will as she tries to find safety while already enduring a shark bite.

I Don’t Understand You (2024)

Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells star in I Don’t Understand You.

It’s a comedy of errors when Dom and Cole take a trip to Italy. Their bumbling ends up in an accidental death. By trying to conceal what they’ve done, they only make things worse.

September 25

The Surfer (2024)

The director of The Surfer, Lorcan Finnegan, also directed Vivarium (2019) and Nocebo (2022).

Nicolas Cage plays a man who just wants to buy a house near the beach he grew up on. But the locals consider him an outsider, and they don’t like outsiders. At all. So, The Surfer decides to stay near the beach as he tries to close the deal on the house despite his entire life seeming to fall apart around him. The longer the movie goes on, the more The Surfer becomes a wild psychological trip that might be deeper than it seems.

September 30

Bloody Axe Wound (2024)

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has a cameo in Bloody Axe Wound. He’s also a producer, and he did more for the movie behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera.

Abbie’s father is a serial killer known as Bladecut, and she wants to get into her father’s line of work. When she’s finally given the go-ahead to start slashing, she starts having second thoughts when she accidentally becomes friends with her potential victims. Bloody Axe Wound is a cute coming-of-age horror comedy that exists in a world where slasher movies are made from real-life murders perpetrated by actual masked killers. It’s an odd premise, but it works well.
