Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have talked about making a horror movie together. It just hasn’t happened yet because the right project hasn’t presented itself.
Key, 55, laid it out in a chat with PEOPLE while promoting Buddy, the new mascot horror-comedy in which he voices a sinister unicorn. He credits Peele, 47, with pulling him back toward the genre after years of not being a horror guy.
“Jordan’s a very considered thinker and a very careful thinker,” Key said. “The big thing for him is always: it has to be the right thing. And I want that for him all the time. I want him to realize his vision as purely as he wants to in his mind.”
The two rose to fame on their sketch show, which ran from 2012 to 2015, and last worked together voicing a pair of demon brothers in the 2022 stop-motion film Wendell & Wild. Peele has since become one of horror’s leading voices through Get Out, Us and Nope.
He’s set to direct a fourth film for Universal, though the untitled project was pulled from the studio’s calendar last fall and hasn’t moved since. Whether Key ends up in it, he says, is just a matter of time.
