‘Skinamarink’ Gets Limited VHS Release from Lunchmeat
If you want a copy of Skinamarink on VHS, you’ll need to act quickly on July 15th!
Just a few weeks after it was released on DVD and Blu-ray, indie horror hit Skinamarink gets a lo-fi home video treatment with a limited release on VHS from the video connoisseurs at Lunchmeat!
As great as the Blu-ray release is with its filmmaker commentary, a VHS might be even more appealing for many Skinamarink fans. The film has a distinctly retro feel, and, in fact, the movie is set in 1995. VHS was still dominant the 1995 (DVD didn’t debut in the United States until 1997), so watching Skinamarink on VHS feels like the most authentic experience you can possibly have. Just thinking about watching Skinamarink late at night, alone, with all the lights off, on VHS, on a cathode-ray tube TV sounds absolutely perfect.
Even if you don’t have the perfect VHS-viewing setup though, Lunchmeat’s Skinamarink release is still great for collectors. The tweet Lunchmeat posted announcing the release shows that the movie will be available in three different colors of cassette: blue, white, and black. As a VHS collector/viewer/enthusiast myself, I always recommend watching what you buy, but even if you can’t, the Skinamarink VHS will still look great on your shelf.
Skinamarink on VHS goes on sale Saturday July 15th, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Eastern Standard Time (EST). If you want to secure a copy, you should head over to lunchmeatvhs.com early and be ready to go as soon as the time comes. As with most of Lunchmeat’s other more popular VHS releases, Skinamarink will likely sell out quickly.
Additionally, for serious collectors, Kyle Edward Ball’s Heck is also being released on VHS at the same time Skinamarink goes on sale. Heck is a short film (about 28 minutes long) directed by Ball that was released on YouTube in 2020. Its plot is essentially the same as Skinamarink: a child wakes up during the night and finds that he is all alone. Heck can be seen as a precursor to Skinamarink, though it does feel different enough to feel more like a companion piece. Heck on VHS goes on sale on lunchmeatvhs.com at 12:00 p.m. (noon) EST on July 15th, 2023. It will be available in two colored cassettes, red and black.
