Here are the movies and shows that should be on your radar this weekend (12/1):
A Murder at the End of the World (2023). Streaming on Hulu. The first four episodes of this psychological thriller drama series are now streaming on Hulu. There are two more episodes in the first season that will be added on Mondays, with the finale up on Hulu on Dec. 11. The series finds an amateur detective and writer invited to a luxury retreat by tech billionaire. When another guest dies, she has to prove it was murder before the killer strikes again.
Evil Dead Rise (2023). Streaming on Prime Video. If you haven’t seen one of the best horror movies of 2023 yet, it’s now free for Prime subscribers. This supernatural horror movie is a fun, fresh and supremely gory installment in the Evil Dead franchise. Themes of motherhood and sisterhood are woven into a violent possession story taking place in a dilapidated apartment building.
Consecration (2023). Streaming on Hulu. A supernatural horror-thriller that stars Jena Malone as an English woman searching for the truth behind her brother’s mysterious death. She travels to the convent where her brother, a priest, died and is told he had been a suspect in a murder investigation. While searching for answers, the woman uncovers a secret about her own past.
Dampyr (2022). Streaming on Netflix. An Italian horror-fantasy film based on a popular comic series. Set in a war-torn 1990s Balkans, a human-vampire hybrid uses their powers to fight an evil force.
The Silencing (2020). Streaming on Netflix. This action thriller stars Game of Thrones Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Rayburn Swanson, an alcoholic outdoorsman who gave up hunting after his daughter disappeared and now owns an animal sanctuary. When Rayburn encounters a camouflaged hunter in the woods who throws spears at him, he finds a young girl the hunter was after and rescues her. Small town politics and the mystery of Rayburn’s daughter’s disappearance collide and a killer is revealed hiding in plain sight.
Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God (2023). Streaming on Max. This is a three part docuseries about the “Love Has Won” cult led by Amy Carlson, who called herself “Mother God”. Fans of bonkers documentaries and creepy cults will love this deep dive into crazy. This cult was originally known as the “Galactic Federation of Light”.
