Here are the movies that should be on your radar this weekend (10/20):
Slotherhouse (2023). Streaming on Hulu. For fans of bad movies, Slotherhouse is surprisingly good. A sorority sister adopts a cute little sloth to help her win everyone over in her campaign to be sorority president. Instead, the sloth begins murdering students one-by-one.
The Devil on Trial (2023). Streaming on Netflix. This dark documentary dives into the same true crime case fictionalized in The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021). As the title suggests, it is about a man who committed murder and claims that the the devil literally made him do it. Prior to the murder, the man had been involved in exorcisms involving a young boy who was allegedly possessed by “43 demonic spirits” (according to Ed Warren).
Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House (2023). Streaming on Hulu. This documentary explores the controversial haunted attraction (it’s not actually a haunted attraction, as the doc explains) McKamey Manor. Run by Russ McKamey the Manor promises to be the most extreme haunted house in the world. However, after visitors sign a consent for that allows all kinds of inhumane cruelty, they are instead just videotaped being tortured in McKamey’s yard.
Flashback (2023). Streaming on Netflix. Netflix is trying out some short horror movies including this one about a yoga teacher experiencing a scary home invasion.
Look Away (2019). Streaming on Netflix. New to the service is this horror movie about a shy teen who swaps places with her sinister mirror image.
Deliver Us From Evil (2014). Streaming on Netflix. Also new to Netflix is this crime horror thriller starring Eric Bana as a cop convinced there is a rational explanation for a string of supernatural murders.
Devil’s Road: The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (2020). Streaming on Max. If you get hooked on learning about the Warrens while watching The Devil on Trial, Max now has this documentary on the controversial paranormal investigators. Originally a Travel Channel special, this documentary is a great overview of the couple’s investigations. Ed and Lorraine Warren’s son-in-law, Tony Spera, has posted his thoughts on this special and how factual he believes it is.
